lost generation

For people of my generation life is not easy. We are born into a world full of possibilities and choices. You’ve all experienced it yourself: you just want to buy strawberry yoghurt, but there you stand in the supermarket, in front of the yoghurt shelf, confronted with 20 different sorts of strawberry yoghurt. And you just don’ t know which one to choose.

That’s how we feel.

For our parents and even more for our grandparents life was much easier in some way. The path was given and choices were little (at least that’s what I think. I wasn’t there myself!).

But today we have the absolute freedom of choice. We can do WHAT WE WANT. We can chose where to live, what to learn, what to eat, who we want to be and what we want to become. The only problem is: we don’t know, what to chose. We don’t know WHAT WE WANT. And how could we know. We can only find out by trying. So we try…

I know that I don’t just speak for my self. Most of my friends, most people of my age, are lost. And those who say they arent’t are just not aware of it yet.. Some think, they know exactly, what they want, just to find out one day, that they are fooling themselves. Many are going astray for a long time. And they suffer. There is pressure from the outer world, from parents, from “society” (who ever this “society”-guy is!).

So many signs pointing into so many different directions. And we are expected to make the right choices right away and be successful in everything we do. But the problem is: we don’t know what we want. And how could we know. We can only find out by trying. By doing the wrong thing, taking the wrong decision, doing mistakes again and again, by suffering for a long time.

But sometimes some people find out – and I hope that eventually everyone will – where they are supposed to go. When they stop listening to all those well meant, but false advices, stop following those signs that lead to other peoples’ dreams and wishes. When they become brave enough and start listening to their own heart. That’s no easy task as well. Following your own path can be very tough and challenging. But finally it’s the only path we can follow. You can only be successful in something, when you do it with all your heart, when you really love, what you are doing.

But today I am proud of presenting someone who found out. And I am even more proud that I can call that person my friend.

Nadine Maria Schmidt does, what she loves and she is DAMN GOOD in it.

Nadine is a musician, she is Nylonsaiten & Saitenstrümpfe, she is the Woman with Guitar.

I know that she was struggling as well. And even now that she knows exactly what she wants to do, she experiences how difficult it can be. It is hard work.

But I know that she will keep following her path and I am sure that one day she will be on top, she will be filling big concert halls and moving thousands of people to tears.

She is already moving me to tears, as I’m sitting here in my room, listening to her new cd somewhere in between.
